Goldflame: The Dark Romance Awaited by Fans

Goldflame by Aveline Knight

There are many things I never thought I’d find myself behind; the barrel of a gun is one of them. I feel the tingle, the rush, as it slithers down my skin. I feel the cold. Too many deaths – one of them will be the death of me. Julian is determined to make me pay for someone else’s sins. And I’m struggling not to succumb to his mercy, not to fall to my knees and beg. But as my legs give in, as my muscles strain and my voice weakens, I keep the handle of my knife tight in my grip. My Mother’s suffering collides with mine as I use my last breath to take away the ones who stole hers. I keep fighting. I keep killing. I keep hoping. Even when ghosts are the only company I have left. Even when he’s the last thing I see.

Goldflame is book 2 in the Chrysophillist Trilogy by Aveline Knight. I was super fortunate to ARC read the first book, Goldsin, and I absolutely loved it. It ended on a major cliffhanger, and I was equal parts impressed and devastated because I knew I had to wait for book two. When I saw the ARC openings for book 2, you bet your beautiful behind I was signing up for a copy and was so happy when I got the email with a copy of the book. Now, just because I received this copy for free in exchange for a review doesn’t mean I am going to gush and say lies. I tell the truth!

I read book 1 in September 2024, and I rated it 4.5 stars. This trilogy follows Aurelia, whose Mother was bought from an auction to be a pet. She was abused and humiliated by the IC (which is like an illegal criminal organisation). Aurelia has been raised by Valentine, who is head of security for the IC. She finds her mom’s diary and decides she wants revenge on everyone who caused her pain or humiliation, and starts to kill those involved. She has Julian’s help until he thinks she has killed his brother at the end of book one. Book two starts where book one ends. Julian is holding a gun trained on Aurelia.

Julian and Aurelia had such a magnetic relationship as kids, then Aurelia started dating Adrian, who dated her to protect her from his and Julian’s father, who was the head of the IC and the main abuser of her mother. In book one, Aurelia is pulled to Julian, and we feel like they will fall in love and run away together. Book two sees the fall of Julian, and he is turning into the person he despised the most, his dad. His mother is the one pulling the strings with her manipulations, and I must say that throughout this book, I cried. I cried at the way Julian treated Aurelia, and I cried for the boy Julian was. I absolutely hate Lady Harrow, and I am hoping Aurelia takes her out in book 3 and not on a date!

This book also ended on a cliffhanger, which again makes me love and hate the author. If book 3 were out, I would have no problems, but now I’m left waiting, and it’s torture, but in the best way. This book flowed really well, the writing style is nice and easy to read, but still descriptive. There are many twists and turns that leave you needing more. If you enjoy mafia-style romance, you will enjoy this.

I give this one 4.5 stars also, and 2 for spice. It has a couple of spicy scenes, but not a ton, and they flow well with the story. I recommend this series 100%.

Thank you Aveline Knight for sending me the arc, I look forward to book 3.
