Sinners Retreat Review: A Hilarious Serial Killer Romance

Sinners Retreat by Lauren Biel

I have read a few of Lauren Biel’s books; the first one I ever read was Captured, which is very dark! I still can’t look at mayo the same. Today, I have finished the first book in Lauren’s Slaycation series, Sinners Retreat.
Is it dark?
Well, they are serial killers; they are at a resort for a serial killer annual event where they get to play bowling using people’s heads, but other than that aspect, no, it’s not dark. It had me laughing out loud many times. It is a dark rom-com, and spoiler alert, I loved it!

So, what is Sinners Retreat about?
Well, it follows Kindra and Ezra. Kindra is a serial killer known as the heartbreak killer, she kills the biggest scum on earth – predators. Ezra is also a serial killer known as The Abattoir Adonis and he also kills the worlds scummiest fuckers – peadophiles.
Kindra’s brother was killed by the Abattoir Adonis, and she wants to find him and make him pay. Her brother was not a bad person, and she doesn’t know why he was killed. She decides to go to a retreat to find his killer. She and Ezra meet before knowing they are both heading to the serial killer retreat and decide to hook up. When Ezra finds out Kindra is going to the retreat in hopes of finding her brother’s killer, he does everything he can to hide his serial killer identity.

The retreat holds many funny activities, all to do with killing people, obviously. The people they kill are all criminals, and wear colour-coded jumpsuits so you know the crime they are guilty of.

Ezra’s brother is also on the retreat, and let’s just say he gave me the most laughs. I was laughing that hard, I had to read it out to my husband so he understood what was so funny. He still gave me a weird look lol. The next book in the series is Bennett’s book, and I can’t wait for the laughter I know will be in that.

I flew through this book. I enjoy Lauren’s writing style; it is easy to read but not simple. She is descriptive and witty in her writing. Ezra is also a British character, while the others are American, and as a Brit, it was nice to see that she got some of the slang we use correct. I really enjoyed this. I didn’t want it to end.

I gave it 5 stars!
