Slay Ride by Lauren Biel is book 2 in the Slaycation series, which is a dark rom-com series. Book 1, Sinners Retreat, focused on Kindra and Ezra, at the tropical retreat for serial killers. You can find my review for that here. Book 2, Slay Ride, focused on Cat and Bennett, and it is at the winter retreat.
Bennett is Ezra’s brother, and Cat is Kindra’s best friend. Cat does not yet have her first kill under her belt, and Bennett and Cat hate each other, so Bennett decides that he wants to kill block Cat at every turn. In doing so, they both end up stranded in the Alaska wilderness, in Winter. They manage to make it to the Cabin before Cat dies of frostbite. Here is where their relationship changes, and they, of course, are stuck together in a cabin. What is going to happen? The horizontal tango!

Being destroyed has never sounded so good.
I loved every minute of this book, just like I did with book one. There is a healthy amount of humour and spice. There wasn’t as much killing in this book as in the first; it seemed more like a regular vacation than a serial killer retreat. Cat did end up getting her first kill, though, so YAY.
Kitten, with me by your side, you can do whatever you want
It was a little strange reading this whilst in the middle of a heatwave. I was sitting in front of a fan, melting like the wicked witch of Manchester, whilst these lucky fuckers were nice and cool in Alaska. Okay, to be fair, they were probably more cold than cool, and I would hate every second of that too.
Ship Happens is book 3, and the arc has just hit my inbox a day or so ago, and I’m super excited to read it. I’ve been having health struggles, and my brain has been like sludge, so Slay Ride was the perfect book to get me back to reading. I am starting to feel a lot more like myself. I am still very drained and struggling to concentrate for long periods, but I managed to read this book without struggling too much, so I’m happy!
I gave this book 5 stars, even if the whole food kink Bennett has made me question everything I know. I do not want to ruin this for you, because you need to get the full experience, just do not eat a chicken leg while you’re reading this. In fact, stay away from chicken in general while reading this. I do wonder why Lauren likes to put us off food 😂
