Set Sail for Chaos in Lauren Biel’s latest dark rom-com, Ship Happens

Ship Happens by Lauren Biel

Ship Happens is book 3 in the Slaycation series by Lauren Biel and is available to preorder now. The book is set for release on August 1st. Book one is Sinners Retreat, which follows Ezra and Kindra. Book 2 is Slay Ride, which follows Bennett and Cat. Book 3 is Ship Happens, which follows Maverick and Frankie. This serial killer retreat is being held on a cruise ship, the Bruise Cruise. Jim, as we know by now, likes to play games and keep things interesting. What is interesting about this retreat is that it isn’t just killers and cattle. The ship is split into segments, with a section for “normies” and a section for sinners. There is also an extra surprise this trip, as there are 11 Federal agents on the cruise undercover, waiting to bring the killers to their knees. Can they find the agents first? What if you fall in love with one?

Maverick is ready to chill on the cruise with his friends and fellow serial killers. He is looking forward to indulging in good food, maybe a bit of sex, and of course, disposing of a lot of cattle. What he doesn’t expect is to be sharing a room with a woman called Frankie, whom Jim has asked him to protect. Frankie is a federal agent sent to take Jim down, but she finds more than she expected. She finds love, she also finds an unhinged part of herself, along with finding friends and family.

I really enjoyed this. I love this entire series; it has everything: humour, action, and spice. I think book one will always be my favourite, mainly because I almost died laughing at the Pineapple scene. But all the books are equally as good, we get to learn more about each character as the books go on, and they begin to feel like your own friends and family.

This trip was set on a cruise ship, and I wasn’t sure how well that was going to work, but it did! I was also on the fence about the Federal Agents, but fuck me, that worked too. I should never question Lauren; she knows what she’s doing. She had me guessing the entire book about who Frankie’s dad was. I thought it was Jim for ages lol.

Jim went all out on this trip, making them dress in costumes, and he dressed up as Blackbeard. It made me laugh, just imagining a group of serial killers dressed up as pirates 😂

The chemistry between Frankie and Maverick was wonderful. Maverick is a dangerous contract killer, but he is also just so goddamn sweet! We know from book 1 that Maverick had a traumatic past; we see more of how that still affects him now in this book. I respect Frankie for never once making fun of Maverick’s needs; she didn’t know completely why he had to be smacked around to get hard, she just accepted it and went with it. When she realised Maverick could get hard by dominating her, she would be a brat, so he would have to dominate her. They just fit together so well.

The girls are also the most welcoming group of girls ever! I love them. Kindra has come a long way. She had no friends, then Cat squeezed her way in, then Eve and now Frankie. I love it.

I also wanted to go and comfort Ice Pick in this book, bless him! He has his morals correct; he didn’t care that she was a fed, but he killed her because she abused her dogs. I never paid too much attention to Ice Pick in the first 2 books, but I did in this one. I hope we get more of his story soon. I know there is a book 4, which is going to be set in an abandoned theme park. I’m stoked for that one.

I would like to thank Lauren Biel for sending me the ARC for this book. As always, the review is 100% my opinion.
