July Reading Wrap Up

I struggled a lot this month with reading. I just couldn’t get my brain to focus. I did, however, finally finish a diamond painting I started last year, so there’s that šŸ˜‚ I read 6 books this month, well 6.15 since I did listen to 15% of one book but then DNF’d anyway, we will get into that šŸ˜‚ Here’s what I read this month.

I started the month with a debut book by E.D. Yates called The First Sin. This is a paranormal enemies to lovers dark romance, and I really enjoyed it. I gave it 4 stars, and would 100% recommend.

I then listened to Slay Ride by Lauren Biel on audiobook while I diamond painted. I loved Sinners Retreat and knew I would love this; the only thing that had me hesitant was that we were having a heat wave, and this is set in winter. I knew Ship Happens book 3 was coming out, though, so I thought fuck it and dived in. I am glad I did because it was as good as book 1! Loved it, the Slaycation series is by far my favourite series of Lauren’s! I gave it 5 stars.

I then read The Nocturne Abyss by Dakota Wilde, which was an ARC read. I wanted to have read it sooner, but with my health issues, I had been struggling. I am glad I waited for my brain to not be as foggy because I loved this and was able to fully immerse myself in the story, and I need book 2 so bad! I gave this 5 stars. I recommend this so much!

Then the ARC for Ship Happens dropped into my emails, and I started that straight away. Again, an amazing read. Honestly, the slaycation series is hilarious! If you haven’t read them, you need to!

Then the book I DNF’d. I started Distorted by Nyla K on audiobook. There was nothing wrong with the audiobook or with the book, I think the problem lay with me and the fact that my brain was going foggy again, and my headaches were back. I decided to DNF the book at 15% but it’s one I will 100% be going back to!

I took just over a week off reading, and I watched a lot of true crime on YouTube in this time šŸ˜‚ There are some sick fuckers in this world! Anyway, I decided since I couldn’t sleep, yes, insomnia is still a problem, I would try and read a small book to hopefully get me back into reading, and I picked up Dirty Little Trick by Avery James King. It was a short, smutty, easy read. I gave it 3 stars.

It did its job, though, because as soon as I finished Dirty Little Trick, I picked up The Umbra King by Jamie Applegate Hunter and read about 30% in the early morning and finished the rest the next day. I gave it 4.5 stars, I loved it, and I can’t wait to start book 2, it will be the first book I read in August for sure.

I have reviews up for all of these books, if you want to read more.

Have you had a good reading month?
