In the Mind of a Monster: A Review of SK Pryntz’s Little Author

Little Author by SK Pryntz

Little Author is a dark romance novella that follows Elodie, who is an author. Elodie becomes obsessed with Roux Pattel, who has been locked away for life. Roux, also known as the Maestro, is a serial killer. Elodie took Roux’s story and twisted it into a dark, seductive work of fiction. She never imagined her muse would be free, but he is, and he is coming to end her story.

This is the first book I have read by SK Pryntz. I have seen my friends have read her books and loved them, so when I saw she had ARC signups open, I thought fuck it, why not? I like dark reads; this one, however, was not my favourite.

It is an ARC, and I know SK Pryntz has taken on the advice of her ARC readers; the version I have read had some inconsistencies about London, which she has been made aware of and changed. She has also said she will send us a copy of the new version, too, which is nice. I like that she has taken on the feedback and wants to make the book more accurate and better.

Overlooking this, as I know she has amended it, I felt like the book seemed a little rushed, that might of just been me though!

I liked the premise of the author and the killer reader. I didn’t really like either character, though. Elodie was a bit too weird and undecided for my liking, and Roux killed because he enjoyed it; he also sexually assaulted his victims, and yeah, I couldn’t like him. I like my anti-heroes to have a redeeming quality, but I didn’t see one in Roux. Elodie confused me, one minute she wants to live out her fantasy getting fucked by a serial killer, the next she is running to the cops’ house.

I think I would like to try another book by SK Pryntz; I don’t think this one was quite the fit for me. I didn’t hate this book; I also didn’t love it.

Thank you, SK Pryntz, for sending me the ARC of this book.
