Bonepetal by Nova Kane
Releases 3rd October 2025

Bonepetal is an erotic horror that follows Salem, who grew up in a cult. In the prologue, she is to be sacrificed by the cult members to the Devil. Finn was not going to let this happen; he massacred the cult and sacrificed himself so that Salem could live. Salem made a vow to Finn that she would never love again. She broke that vow, now Finn has clawed his way out of hell to claim her.
The Devil needs a soul, but it won’t be yours.
You run Salem. You run and don’t you ever fucking look back. Not tonight. Not ever.
I swear. I’ll never look back and I’ll never love again. I swear it Finn.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. Nova Kane eats!! She is such a good writer, and whenever she has ARCs open, I jump on them. To be on Nova’s permanent ARC team would be the dream! This book is 130 pages, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but Nova can pack so much into 130 pages, it’s incredible.
Erotic horrors and dark romances that start with a cult always have me reaching for them. This novella doesn’t give us a deep dive into the cult, but that’s not overly relevant, so I get why. It would be cool to read more about the cult and what they believed. Why was Salem considered pure enough to sacrifice to the Devil? The story, though, is about Salem after the cult, after Finn has given his life for hers. Salem is trying to live her life like Finn told her to. He said live for the both of us. She is back at school, she has her friends, but she cannot stop thinking about Finn. She finds herself sketching his eyes, his jaw, wearing his hoodie. She misses him immensely.
Salem does have a new boyfriend called Nathan, who is a dick. Let’s not sugarcoat it, he sucks. He is also the reason Finn breaks through the veil at Halloween when the veil is at its thinnest. How dare he kiss her, where Finn used to kiss her?
Devil’s Night. The goddamn border between what belongs in the ground and what refuses to rot is paper-thin. And all it fucking took was the pressure of that broken promise, and my love-which has never been holy, only hungry, rabid, and fucking endless-for me to pass right through it.
Salem knows Finn has come back for her, but when she comes face to face with him again, she realises he isn’t the boy she knew. I mean, being in Hell for a year will probably change a guy; I couldn’t say, though, I haven’t visited. She doesn’t like how he has changed, but she still loves him. She can still feel the tether that the Devil has on her; she knows he will come to claim her. Finn helps her remove this. I don’t want to spoil this, so I won’t say anything else except that I was shocked. She loves him, but in the end…well I was like girl…whattt!
There was a time he kissed me like I was the only thing keeping him alive.
Now he fucks me like I’m the one who killed him
The writing was fabulous, it’s Nova, of course it was. You feel like you are there, going through these feelings with Salem. It really helped get me even more in the Halloween spirit, too. I liked Salem; she confused me a little because she reacted to situations in a way that I guess I wouldn’t if I were in them. Like if my husband came back from the grave, I would be happy…not that my husband is in the grave lol. I liked Finn, too. He has been through Hell and back literally. If you want a spicy, Halloween, paranormal horror, read this!
Thank you, Nova, for the ARC.
