“Fatal Collision” by Harleigh Beck: A Gripping Start to the Dark Lanes Series.

Fatal Collision by Harleigh Beck

Fatal Collision is book one in the new Harleigh Beck series, Dark Lanes. It follows Jessica, who is from the “poor” side of town and Kane, who is from the “rich” side of town. Jessica’s only goal is to survive; her mum is in hospice, dying from cancer. Her Dad is an alcoholic, her brother keeps losing money in races, and her younger sister needs her to protect and care for her. Jessica needs money to keep her family together and feed them, so she decides to gate-crash a party on the rich side of town and steal from Mr Ravencourt himself, one of the town’s founders. Unfortunately for Jessica Kane, one of Mr Ravencourt’s sons catches her. Jessica holds her own, and one forbidden touch was like waving a red flag at a bull. Kane is obsessed and isn’t about to let his prey get away.

You all know by now that I love Harleigh Beck and her writing. So when I saw that Fatal Collision had ARC openings, of course, I signed up! I then saw that Harleigh had opened up her street team and applied so fast, I think I gave myself carpal tunnel lol. I am super happy to say I am now a proud member of Harleigh’s street team! I have been eagerly waiting for this book. I woke up to it in my inbox today and knew that everything else could wait; I was reading this book!

I liked the pace of the book. I would say it’s fast-paced, but not rushed! It keeps you turning the page and has you hooked.

I’d also say this book is character-driven. Let’s dive into the characters. The FMC is called Jessica, and she is from the poor side of town; her mother is dying from cancer, and her dad is always drunk. Her brother keeps trying to race to bring home money, but he keeps losing because he’s racing the rich boys from the other side of town. Jessica has a younger sister, who is more innocent and pure. I liked Jessica’s character. She carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, weight she shouldn’t have to carry. She is ballsy and does what needs to be done. I freaking loved that she pulled a power move. You usually see these power plays go the other way, and so I loved it! I was cheerleading in my head for her.

Kane, at first he comes across as a dominant, sexy, rich boy who has everything under his control. Which is appealing, don’t get me wrong, but then seeing how Jessica handled him was hot. As the book goes on, you see that Kane also has a lot of weight on his shoulders. So does his twin brother Cash. I liked Kane’s character, I liked the cocky swagger he had, the way he kept texting Jessica, and came to claim the orgasm he was owed when she left him on read.

The setting of the book was, I guess, something many people can relate to in a way that no matter what town you live in, there are the richer areas and the poorer areas. Makes it all the more realistic in your mind.

This is a Harleigh Beck book, so of course, I liked the writing style. She has a way of writing that immerses you. Everything else fades into the background, and it’s just you and the book. I pretty much always ended up claiming a new book boyfriend, too. We will now add Kane to my list. This is getting serious now…my list of book boyfriends has to be heading towards triple figures lol.

Overall, I loved this book. I was hooked from page one. I read this in one sitting and would like to go back and read it again!
Do I recommend this book? Fuck YES.
It will make you laugh, and probably make you get butterflies. Kane can wink at me and call me princess any day, but when he called her baby! I was gone…swooning…kicking my feet the lot!

This book is being released on November 29th. It’s available to preorder here.

As always, thank you, Harleigh, for the ARC.
