Midnight Chase is book 2 in the Dark Lanes series by Harleigh Beck. It follows on from where we left off in Fatal Collision. Jessica knows she should stay away from Kane, but she finds herself craving him too much. She feels like a different person with Kane, a person she likes; she’s able to ignore the darkness of her life when she is around him. Kane likewise can’t stay away from Jessica; in his eyes, she is his, no matter what! Kane will destroy every enemy to keep her safe, even his own father?

I really enjoyed the pace of this book. It was longer than Fatal Collision but held the same amount of anticipation. I was reading this whilst my carpets were being fitted in my new flat, and honestly, I didn’t even hear the noise of the carpet fitters or them talking. I was so in the book that it was all I was aware of. This book, like book one, is character-driven, and I adore the characters. Jessica and Kane have so much going on in their lives that no one else is aware of. When they are together, the rest of their lives get paused, and they just enjoy each other. Jessica knows she should stay away from Kane, and Kane knows it’s dangerous bring Jessica into his world, but it’s like an invisible tether pulling them to each other.

In this book, we understand a bit more of the pressures that are placed on Kane and his brother Cash, and I just want it on record that I want to slap their dad around the face with a wet, stinky fish. What a dick! Speaking of dicks, Chris (Jessica’s brother) needs to sort his shit out, he’s making me mad lol. Whenever I read a Harleigh Beck book, I get so involved in my head, the characters become real, and I get mad & pissy at them. I also swoon when it comes to Kane. That, to me, is when I know I like the writing style of a book, when I get so involved in my head that the characters are real to me.

Overall thoughts:
I loved it! I couldn’t sit down & relaxingly read this due to moving house, but I read when I could, and I enjoyed every minute of it. When I wasn’t reading it, Jessica and Kane were on my mind. This is turning into an amazing series, and I think you should read it. Both books are out now, and book 3 is releasing soon, which I am super excited for, although Harleigh has teased us with a snippet, and I may need tissues handy when I read it! I’ve put Harleigh’s post below to tease you, too!
