Meet Cute at the Boneyard by C.J Riggs

Meet Cute at the Boneyard is a paranormal romance that follows Heather & Ricky, who have a meet-cute in, believe it or not… a boneyard, haha. They meet in the graveyard when both are disposing of dead bodies. Heather is rather girly, and Ricky leans more towards the emo aesthetic, which leads to Heather giving him nicknames that made me giggle. Ricky knows Heather belongs to him; now he needs to show her that she belongs to him & he isn’t letting her go.
Time. It’s the one thing you can never tell how much of it you might have left. It’s also something that can either move at a glacial pace, or so quickly you have no idea where the day went or how the hours passed you by.

She might be the only person on the face of this planet that could order me about and I’d get a hard-on just by the tone of her voice alone.
Okay, first things first…I loved this!
Okay, now to actually review 😆 This is a novella, so it is fast-paced, but not rushed. I liked the book’s pace; I am a sucker for a good novella. I still want the cutesy shit, and the angst and the tension. I still want butterflies in my tummy when they flirt, just because it’s a novella doesn’t mean it has to be a case of they met, and then they are dry humping. Riggs pulled this novella off amazingly. The romance was still rather slow-burn, which I loved. I still giggled and kicked my feet while reading because this was cute as shit!
The book is definitely character-driven, and there are some twists and turns in the book that are just delicious! I don’t want to say too much on that because I want you to enjoy them for yourselves. The characters themselves are lovable, both of them. Heather is funny AF, and the banter the two of them have is hilarious. Their internal monologues are also hilarious.
“And secondly… ‘Panic At The Disco’… why are you watching me like some crazed stalker weirdo? Because… Ew.”
I really enjoyed the setting of the book; it was a cute idea to have them meet in the graveyard. I also really enjoyed the writing style, which is no surprise, I enjoy Riggs’ work. Riggs has an awesome way of making you laugh in books, even when you’re reading a horror. If I had to say a con for this book, it would be that I want a book 2, but I know there isn’t going to be one. Although we may see Heather & Ricky again in some format.
I slowly slide my hand lower and thread my fingers through his.
Heather, you just met the guy who admitted he’s been watching you. ARE YOU WELL!?
Slight spoiler below
My overall thoughts
I really enjoyed reading this and found myself giggling and feeling happy after I had finished it.
I think you should read this book. If you like cute, murdery main characters who love to banter, you will love this. If you liked the film Happy Death Day, you will like this book…It is not the same as the film, but it’s kind of got that vibe. This book is releasing on the 10th February and is available for pre-order now.
Thank you, Riggs, for the ARC.
