At the end of 2024 I asked 12 friends to each recommend me a book, as I wanted to partake in the 12 friends, 12 months, 12 books challenge that I saw on TikTok but I wanted to not just create a post, I wanted to add it to my book journal and read one of the books each month.

My beautiful friend Corina gave me the Consumed Trilogy as her recommendation. Now I technically only needed one book and was just going to read book one, but I ended up reading all three.

Thrilling Short Story Review: A Must-Read from Amazon First Reads

I downloaded this book because it was the bonus read for May’s Amazon First Reads, I didn’t know if I would ever read it but it was free so I downloaded it.

I have previously read the Housemaid Series by Freida McFadden and I enjoyed book 1 and 2, book 3 not as much but I wasn’t blown away by them enough to think about picking another one of her books up, I have some on my shelf but these were purchased before I read the Housemaid Series. Don’t get me wrong she isn’t a bad writer at all, just quite predictable I feel, but like I said I haven’t read any other books by her.

I had just finished a thriller that I didn’t enjoy and thought why not give this a try it’s only 79 pages.

Booktok Group Reads: Our Thriller Experience

I Don’t Like Mondays by Maria Frankland

There’s a bit of a story behind how this book got chosen, so bear with me. Me and a group of friends who all met through booktok, have a WhatsApp group where we talk about books and also lots of other stuff, but it centres around books. Each month, we decide to do a group read. This month, we each picked a genre and put it in a spinny wheel, as we usually chose a Dark Romance read and wanted something different. These were the genres up for grabs: Thriller, Gothic Horror, Rom Com, Romantasy (this was my genre), Cowboy Romance and Erotic Horror.
