The Frost that Burns is a dark fantasy romance that follows Keres, a lethal ruby vampire who is chained in a contract to the ruthless Queen of the Underworld. Keres doesn’t know freedom, but her best friend gets the week off all duties to attend the Starlit Festival, where they can enjoy feasting on sweets and dancing under the stars. The whole point of the festival is to find your soulmate, but Keres doesn’t believe she will and is content to have fun with her best friend. But then she finds her demons… that’s right, not one soulmate but two, and both of whom the Queen wants dead.

Laurel is a sapphic supernatural romance following Laurel, who is 900 years old. Laurel was tortured by a witch and was inadvertently made immortal. She tries not to get too close to anyone as she knows she will have to leave and start fresh in a new town, or else face questions about why she isn’t ageing. Laurel, against her will, becomes close to Callie; she tries not too but there is something so endearing about Callie that she can’t help herself. However, when she goes to Callie’s house for dinner and meets her husband, Blake Laurel is prepared to run as she has made it a rule to stay away from all supernatural beings, and she knows with one look in Blake’s eyes that he is a vampire. Laurel can’t run until she knows Callie is safe, but then she meets Blake’s twin sister, Blaire, and Laurel doesn’t want to run anymore. Maybe the supernatural world isn’t so bad after all…until the witch that tortured Laurel turns up. Now, Laurel needs to decide whether she runs far, far away or stays and fights for the love and friendship she has found.

It’s his eyes, though, that stop me in my tracks. They’re too bright. A brown that deep should never be that bright; I bet his eyes practically glow in the dark. They shine in a way that simply cannot be natural.

Hot Vampire Next Door is a novella (although it is said to be a Kindle Vella Serial, which is a boxset of episodes 1-18, which I have never heard of before) that follows Jessie and Bran. Jessie is a human, Bran is a vampire. In Midnight Harbor, humans share the space with many supernatural beings, and once they become of age at 21, they are to pledge themselves to a supernatural being. Jessie’s family has always been pledged to the Locke family, and it is expected that Jessie will pledge there too, but she is enamoured with Bran Duval, the black sheep of the Duval family. Bran is not as unaffected by Jessie as he makes out to believe, but when Jessie and Bran find out that secrets are being kept that involve Jessie, they go hunting for the truth. Who is Jessie really?

“Good Girl,” he says. “Behave yourself tonight.”

“I don’t plan on it,” I say back.

Discover Veradel: The Intense Sequel to Xantera

Verde is book 2 in the Guardians and Monsters Duology, Xantera, which I read last month (review here), is book one. Veradel follows straight on from where we left off in Xantera. Now I know Xantera hasn’t been out long, so I will do my best to not spoil that book with what I tell you about this one, but there will be some spoilers. This duology is a vampire, werewolf dystopian duology. Where 12 vampires rule the “utopian” Xantera, while its rightful King is known as the monster beyond the wall. Saskia has been speaking mind to mind with the “monster” and learning the truth about Xantera and its guardians. When Saskia falls from the top of the wall, she comes face to face with the so called monster Lucan. Together, they fight to save Xantera.

This is a woman I would have devoured in a completely different way, if I’d had the chance.
