Twins, Tension, and a Troubling Obsession: A Review of “Graves” by Katelyn Taylor

Graves by Katelyn Taylor

18+ Contains Adult Content

Graves is a dark romance why choose romance, which follows Zayden and Dominic, who are twin brothers and Blake. Zayden sees Blake whilst he is lying on the floor after being shot, and thinks she looks like an angel. He then, after recovering, starts to watch over his “angel”, going as far as watching over her as she sleeps. Zayden will stop at nothing to make Blake his, but whilst protecting Blake, unbeknownst to her, Zayden gets arrested. He asks his brother to watch over her and keep her safe. To protect his girl. Dominic does, but falls in love and takes Blake as his own; he isn’t willing to let her go either. Zayden gets out of prison and is taking his girl back, even if it means going through his twin to get her.

My sight begins to dim as darkness begins to cloud over me. If I don’t make it out of this, at least I got a glimpse of an angel before I burn in hell. If I do, then that angel is mine.

She’s not choosing him. She’s not choosing me. She’s choosing us.

Zayden becomes obsessed with Blake after seeing her once. In his mind, she is his. She doesn’t know about that or about him at all. Zayden is following Blake home from work one night, and as always, Blake has her headphones in. A man starts following Blake, ready to attack her, so Zayden steps in and stabs him. Unfortunately for Zayden, the police see him, and he is arrested. He asks Dominic to watch over her, but Dominic doesn’t watch from the shadows like Zayden did. He sits in the bar she works at and protects her when a customer gets too handsy. This leads to them speaking, and then, of course, he kisses her and sleeps with her. He tries to walk away, but finds himself going back. This I can understand, she’s a great girl…the bit that made me think Dominic was a full-on dick was that he stopped answering Zayden’s calls. His twin is in prison, and Dominic abandons him for a girl.

Zayden & Dominic run a not-so-legal business in which Zayden is essentially a hitman, and Dominic is the more tech guy, wiping the camera footage, etc. They have been through hell and back as brothers, so Dominic just ignoring him and leaving him in prison pissed me off. Zayden has to turn to someone from their past, someone he really didn’t want to owe a debt to, to be able to get out of prison because Dominic abandoned him. Zayden lets Dominic know he is back in the most Zayden way possible…by sleeping with Blake whilst she was asleep next to him. Dominic goes to confront Zayden and is met with violence, and yeah, Zayden shouldn’t have slept with Blake while she was asleep and thinking it was Dom; that’s not fair to her. But fucking up Dominic, yeah, I don’t blame Zayden for that. Dom had it coming; he takes the girl he knows his brother is obsessed with, then ghosts his brother. I’d throw knives at him, too.

Mark me, Zay.
Make me yours. Mark me forever, please

Zayden won’t sit on the sidelines and soon makes himself known to Blake. Unfortunately, the call he made to an old acquaintance to get out of prison comes back to bite them all on the arse, thus meaning Blake has to stay locked up with the twins to keep her safe. Blake sees Zayden as a psychopath at first, and yeah, he kinda is, but *heart eyes* anyway, haha. There is a darkness in Blake, too, and Zayden coaxes it out to play. I don’t want to give any more of the story away. I feel like I have already said quite a lot, but it is an amazing read. Naturally, Blake can’t choose between the two of them, I mean, how could she? They are both delicious, and yes, Dom pissed me off, but I forgave him.

I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like! You know, when I am getting pissed at a character, it’s because they become real in my mind, and boy, was I shouting at Dom at the beginning. All of the characters grow so much through this book, which is nice. I honestly had an amazing time reading this and would recommend it to anyone who also loves dark romance, twins and why choose.
