Revisiting Fiasco: Love, Family, and Secrets Unveiled

Bourbon & Secrets by Victoria Wilder

18+ Contains Adult Content

Bourbon & Secrets is book two in The Bourbon Boys series. It follows Lincoln Foxx, who, after his wife passed away, was left to raise his two girls on his own. The same night Liv passed away, Lincoln bumps into Faye Calloway doing something she should not be doing. Lincoln tells her to leave Fiasco and never return. Now, five years later, Lincoln only has two priorities: raising his girls and making good bourbon. That is, until Faye steps back into Fiasco. Lincoln knows there is more to Faye’s return than her dancing burlesque at Midnight Proof, but he can’t help but become distracted by the stunning woman who treats his girls like they matter. Faye is going to save her sister and right the wrongs of her past, and Lincoln will do anything to save her and his girls.

I knew after reading Bourbon & Lies back in February that I needed to read the other two books in this series. I have found getting the time to read between bad headaches and fatigue episodes difficult this year. Each month, I told myself I was reading Bourbon & Secrets that month, then I got ARCs through and had my book challenge books to read and my book club book, and I never managed to fit it in until May. Have I bitten off more than I can chew with 5 Street teams, 2 book challenges and a book club? It feels like it right now, but last year and the year before it would have been easy. I don’t know what’s going on this year, but I am struggling with my health a lot, and it sucks because my mind wants to be in these fictional worlds; I’m just not as capable at getting myself in them. I may have to step away from some street teams, which hurts because I love supporting indie authors, especially the 5 that I am on street teams for, hence why I am on them.

Anyway, all that sob story to say, I finally managed to read it.

Romantic suspense may be my favourite genre…well, at the moment anyway, haha. I very much enjoyed the plot of this book; it wasn’t so much about figuring out who did what, because we kind of knew that. It was more piecing together what happened. As much as I enjoyed the plot and the setting of this book, the thing that had me hooked was, as always, the characters.

Lincoln Foxx, how do I even talk about this man? Lincoln is an incredible single dad, the way he cares for Lily & Lark is just beautiful. As someone who grew up without a Dad, it made my heart yearn even more for a relationship I won’t ever have. The way the whole Foxx family is to be fair is beautiful. The boys may have lost their parents, but they are such a close-knit family who are always there for one another. They are how a family should be in my eyes, there for one another and not backstabbing each other. Not only is Lincoln a good dad & brother, but he is also an amazing best friend to Hadley – side note, I can’t wait for her story. He is also incredibly hot, dirty, and wholesome.

Faye has always been the protector in her family. She thought she had protected her mom, and maybe she had in a way. She just didn’t know the full story of what happened that night until later on. She comes back to Fiasco and straight away jumps back into the role of protector for her sister Maggie. I really liked Faye; she cared for her family and did whatever she had to do to help them. She was also a sexy as sin burlesque dancer and an amazing PI. I think the thing I liked about Faye the most was the way she was with Lily & Lark, she treated them with respect and kindness, and never once tried to take Lincoln’s time away from them or step in and be their mom.

Speaking of Lily & Lark is hilarious and cute. Not only do they have a “curse purse” that the adults have to pay into if they hear them swear, but they also adopted a dog behind their dad’s back and got Faye to look after him, and they also bought a highland cow. I mean, in their defence, they asked their dad which he would choose hypothetically out of a dog and a cow, and Lincoln said both. So…lol.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Grant is still so far my favourite Foxx brother for now, but I do love Lincoln too. I enjoy Victoria’s writing style; it’s easy to read and flows well, but keeps you hooked. I can’t wait to find the time to read Bourbon & Proof.
