Claimed By Her Monsters by Lexi Davis

Claimed by Her Monsters follows Maddie, who is being placed with her court-appointed distant relative after problems at her foster home. Today is Halloween, which also happens to be Maddie’s 19th birthday. She is brought to her “relatives” home, where the mansion breathes, and the portraits watch. He tells her to stay in her room, but Maddie never does as she is supposed to; she goes downstairs where she meets his 2 friends, and finds out the raging storm outside isn’t normal and she is the key, and must perform the ritual before midnight or doom them all.
For one reckless second, I want him to help me. To take me away from here. I shut that down fast. I don’t trust that emotion.

We’re like the legs of a table, I realize. We need all of us to stand
I’ve been having a tough time with sleep recently, and thus have been struggling to concentrate, so I knew I wanted a novella, but I obviously wanted spice. I decided to scroll through my Kindle and see what I had, and I saw this book. I had read Naughty Saint Nick by Lexi last Christmas and found that rather cute, so I thought I’d give this one a go.
I love me a why-choose and then add in paranormal beings, and I’m onboard, haha. I liked the pace of this book; it was just what my sleep-deprived brain needed. That being said…I wish there were more, haha. I know that sounds contradictory, but I wanted more, or maybe another novella? The way it ended left it open for more to happen, which is good, and I hope we do get more. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, though! I felt like there was quite the build-up to the initiation, but not much after, I would have liked more of them all together.
Slight spoilers incoming
The characters were good. I will say that they weren’t hugely memorable, but they were okay as far as characters go. So Maddie is the FMC, she has just turned 19 and is a witch, she doesn’t know this at the time, and this is why they need the initiation. Which consists of the 4 of them having sex to keep her anchored.
Maddie was okay, a little feisty, a little vulnerable. I would have liked more of her after she retrieves her memories of all the other times she has been alive.
Alister is the supposed distant relative whom the court appoints Maddie to. Alister is a vampire and a bit of a grump to begin with; he is the oldest and strongest of them and the first mate of the witch. He was okay, nothing too special, but not bad either.
Mick is a werewolf who is from Scotland originally. He is the witch’s second mate. He was jolly and fun, cracking jokes and getting Maddie drunk.
Lastly is Caspian, who is a ghost, tied to the house, and he is the witch’s final mate. Caspian gave off emo vibes and was quite sweet.
The book is set in the mansion, which is like a typical scary haunted mansion type place; it fits the book well.
The writing style was good; it flowed well and kept me turning the pages. It was easy to read and rather cute.
Overall thoughts:
This was a cute paranormal why-choose romance, it was fast, a little bit of spice, lots of tension and all in all good vibes. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, easy read.
