Enemies to Lovers: Finding Love in By the Moonbeam and the Mist

By the Moonbeam and the Mist by Mariah Montoya

This is book 2 in the Esholian Institute series. I’m not sure yet how many books will be in this series, but by the end of this book, there is at least one more to come.

By the Moonbeam and the Mist follows on where book one, By the Orchid and the Owl, ended. Coen and the other faeries have fled; they have wiped Rayna’s mind, and she wakes up on the beach with Jagaros, thinking she partied the night before and is drunk/hungover. This book is set in Rayna’s second year at the institute, and because her mind was wiped, she doesn’t remember Coen, she doesn’t remember the truth about who she is. She ends up finding all of this out again. In this book, she is tasked with finding and catching Coen. Coen has changed, though; he is faster than he should be, and he moves with impeccable speed. Rayna plans to capture him, until she realises that a force is destroying the villages and residents in them. A force that is not Coen, if she is to protect her dads and her friends, she must team up with Coen.

This series is incredible, I have loved every minute of reading these books, and I need more immediately! This book is just as good as the first one. Since Rayna’s mind has been wiped, it’s like enemies-to-lovers all over again, and I love it! She gets to fall for Coen all over again. She also has to discover all about herself again, but it is repetitive; you’re not rereading Book One, but Rayna does have to come to terms with the same information again. She also learns a great deal more about herself and her mother. I need to know where her mother is!!

Coen is as sexy and mysterious as ever. I can’t imagine being in his shoes. Where the girl he loves doesn’t remember him and thinks he is the enemy. Due to the mind manipulation and being told Coen is her enemy, Rayna has protected her mind with ice. She can’t access the hidden memories of Coen, as she has hidden them under layers of ice to protect herself.

We also get an amazing, adorable new character…Felicity!! She is a monkey that was ostracised by her fellow monkeys because her jokes weren’t funny enough. Even though Coen cannot understand her, they become friends, and he and Felicity take care of each other in the lighthouse they’ve commandeered as their home. When Felicity meets Rayna, obviously, they can talk, and it’s just adorable!! Felicity calls Coen Coco and Rayna Raynie, and I just want to hug her so bad!

I so desperately want to be a wild whisperer.

If you haven’t read this series, you need to!
